No. In India, Will documents are specifically exempt from stamp duty. You can write your Will on plain paper, and it will be legally recognized and valid without any requirement for stamp paper.
Is Registration or Notarization mandatory? +
Neither registration nor notarization is mandatory. A Will becomes a legal document simply by being signed by the testator in the presence of two witnesses. However, registration—where you and your witnesses appear before a Sub-Registrar—adds an institutional layer of proof that makes the Will much harder to contest in the future.
